Barcelona to release 3 part EP series

Barcelona
The dapper gentlemen in the Seattle indie-pop band Barcelona are slated to release a 3 part EP series, collectively titled The Melodrama, early next year. According to the band, The Melodrama “explores the landscape of learning to love and be loved.” The concept album will be released in 3 separate EPs. The first, Love Me, will feature 5 tracks and will be released on January 21st. EP 2 will be titled Love You and will be released on February 18th, followed by Know Love on March 18th. All EPs will be self-released digitally following the band’s’ departure from Universal Motown.

Kye Kye's new direction

Kye Kye

Use all the cliched terms you want to describe a band’s follow up record with a new and “acclaimed” producer — evolution, departure, maturation — it all applies to the band Kye Kye, who recently released the second single from the upcoming Kickstarter funded sophomore album Fantasize. The album, though finished in August, is slated for a January release.

The first single “Honest Affection” is dark, twisted and full of all the electronic mojo that made 2011’s Young Love and subsequent Remix EP so captivating. The influence of Paper Route multi-instrumentalist and budding producer Chad Howat is striking and definitely adds a level of sophistication and depth to Kye Kye’s intimate and reserved sound. Watch the Saloman Lighthelm directed music video below:

The second, “Dreams (2am)”, is much more subdued and reminiscent of their earlier work in both tone and weight, along the same slow-burning electro-pop vein as similar acts Say Lou Lou or Little Daylight. Both singles represent the new path Kye Kye is forging in their musical careers. If Young Love represented feelings of doubt, ambivalence, and fear, Fantasize moves them into a world of discovery and absolute confidence – the attributes that make for long-lasting careers.

New music from U.S. Royalty

U.S. Royalty
Be excited for this people. Washington D.C. rockers U.S. Royalty are back after a multi-year absence writing and recording their sophomore follow up to 2011’s Mirrors. Due out Jan. 21st, Blue Sunshine is sure to be a must-listen album in 2014, and promises to turn some heads. A little psych, a little southern, and a whole lotta charisma.

The Make release "Solar Light" single

The Make
The Make, a relatively new project featuring former Number One Gun members Jeff Schneeweis and Trevor Sellers (and Sarah Ann from See You Soon), have released a new catchy single: “Solar Light.” With one EP and a smattering of singles released here and there since forming in 2011 in Chico, CA, (UPDATE: Oops! I was simultaneously reading all of the crazy zombie news happening while writing this post and originally reported the band was from Michigan. My apologies.) the music is definitely a departure from the stylings of Number One Gun. The trio opts for synth-heavy dance pop over NOG’s signature sweeping layered pop rock. Whether or not the departure will be for the better or worse for Schneeweis and Sellers is yet to be seen, but in the meantime we sure are digging Solar Light.

Also of note: The Make are the cornerstone of Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers’ (yes, you read that correctly) record label Suspended Sunrise.
